Minerva

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Mixed-breed Minerva—a gentle dog—seeks people with big hearts. Minerva is a young mixed-breed dog currently waiting at our partner animal shelter in Spain for her forever home. She tends to be on the quieter side. While other dogs immediately step into the spotlight, Minerva prefers to observe new situations from a safe distance first. At the moment, she’s still cautious and very submissive—which, given her age, the daily routine at the shelter, and probably her lack of experience with the wider world, is entirely understandable. She arrived at the shelter together with her canine companions Sirius, Lupe, and Lolita, and they still share a kennel today. Minerva gets along well with other dogs. An experienced, confident first dog could certainly make her transition into her new life easier—but it’s by no means essential. Much more important are people who give her time to build trust and settle in at her own pace. Like many dogs from animal shelters, Minerva will likely still have quite a bit to learn—from the basics of dog behavior to daily routines and new environmental stimuli—all of which will initially feel unfamiliar to her. However, with patience, loving consistency, and a secure environment, we believe she’ll gradually gain confidence and self-assurance. We’d like Minerva to find a home with active people who enjoy growing together with their dog—people who won’t overwhelm or underestimate her but instead provide the safety and security she needs to discover her curious and joyful side. At the same time, Minerva has an energetic side waiting to emerge; she longs for shared walks, physical activity, and playtime. Dog sports could also be a wonderful way for her to stay engaged and fulfilled. Because we’re certain: behind this cautious exterior lies a wonderful companion just waiting to finally feel truly at home. As always, choosing to bring a dog into your life should be a well-considered decision that comes with responsibility for many years ahead. Whoever gives Minerva this chance will gain a loyal friend who’ll wholeheartedly give her love and devotion to her human. Click here to watch Minerva’s video!

About Minerva

What life with Minerva looks like

Minerva is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Minerva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Minerva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Minerva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Minerva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Minerva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Minerva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Minerva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
