Adopt Mira

European Shorthair · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

Our little sniffer has spent a lot of time with us in quarantine and the sick bay in recent weeks. We have checked, examined and treated everything that was possible. The diagnosis is now clear: She is a chronic sneezer, in addition to a thyroid disease - and with an estimated 16+ years she definitely belongs to our seniors. We can no longer heal her. But one thing we know for sure: She is an incredibly kind and trusting cat. You can now see her age. She has become calmer and spends a lot of time sleeping and watching. Some days she eats well, on other days significantly less. We cannot say how much time she has left. What we do know: She should not have to spend her last time in a small sick bay box. We would like a place for her where she can once again experience her own dog bed, quiet days and loving hands. A home that knows she may not be here much longer - but still wants to give her this time. Because every animal deserves to be loved when they go. If you can imagine giving our grandma this place, please contact us at the animal shelter.

About Mira

What life with Mira looks like

Mira is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Northeim.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Northeim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Northeim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Northeim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
