Mira

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Mira needs to leave her current home. She already brings a lot with her: she walks on a leash, retrieves, has impulse control with toys and learns new commands quickly. She can handle being alone for four to five hours as well as longer car rides. Mira is social with other dogs in the open. In familiar surroundings, she is affectionate and eagerly seeks cuddles by tapping her humans with her paw. With enough time and rest, she can also build trust with people outside her household. Mira feels most comfortable in a quiet, predictable routine with dog-experienced people who give her security and shape new contacts at her own pace. Strangers or uncertain individuals unsettle her, which is why she does not want to be touched by them. Even during visits and conversations on the go, she needs clear accompaniment, as she quickly becomes excited and can develop the need to move forward. Busy city centers and restaurant visits are too much for Mira at the moment. Cats and some dog encounters also trigger strong excitement in her, so she jumps into the leash and raises her hair. In living with another dog, reliable resource management is also necessary, as Mira tends to jealous behavior when it comes to food. It is important for us to be completely open: Mira has already nipped people in situations where she was insecure in close quarters. Her new people must take her body language seriously, reliably allow her distance and manage encounters in a forward-looking way. A calm, possibly low-stimulation home without children and cats is being sought. Mira needs people who give her security with calmness, clarity, consistency and firm structures. A confident first dog can be a possibility if resources like food are consistently separated. Mira is up-to-date on her vaccinations, healthy and has no allergies. She was born in November 2024, weighs 22 kg, shoulder height 56cm Current location: Neuwied If you are interested in Mira, please contact the current owners at:

About Mira

What life with Mira looks like

Mira is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Neuwied in Neuwied.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Neuwied handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Neuwied will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Neuwied early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
