Adopt Mitsie

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 6 years

Mitsie is a 6-year-old cat. She came to us because her owner could no longer care for her due to circumstances. Mitsie is used to living both inside and outside. Mitsie did not live with other animals or children. Mitsie is a very fearful cat. She has little trust and tends to hiss, scratch, and bite during contact. We are therefore looking for people who want to help her bloom with lots of love, time, and patience in a stable home environment. Mitsie is looking for a home where she will stay indoors for a long time first and will eventually have the possibility to go outside. She will not be placed with children or other animals. Who can give her a good home? If you are interested, please send us an email with detailed answers to the accompanying questionnaire. Emails without answers will not be responded to. Spontaneous visits are not possible. Please do not call. We would like to know first about your home and work situation. – Are there children present? If yes, how old? – Are there dogs present? – Are there other pets present? – What type of housing do you have? Do you rent or own the property? – Have you had experience with cats before? If yes, what happened to the previous cats? – Where will the cat sleep? Where will the cat live? – Where will the cat be during the day/during your absence, indoors or outdoors?

About Mitsie

What life with Mitsie looks like

Mitsie is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mitsie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mitsie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mitsie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mitsie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mitsie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mitsie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mitsie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
