Miyu

Unknown · Puppy · 10 months

Miyu is a young Wolfhound who has learned very little in his short life and now urgently needs experienced breed-specific people to explain the world to him. At barely a year old, he needs people who understand what a young Wolfhound brings and can offer him a forever home. Miyu is exceptionally open-minded and brings little skepticism. Instead, he charges through life with his head held high. In everything he does, he is quick. He thinks fast, learns fast, gets frustrated fast, and acts fast. He is an exceptionally intelligent dog who definitely needs a challenge for his mind. Miyu is at least so far open to all people, very distant and overbearing but never unpleasant. He often behaves like an absolutely frustrated young pup, which, given his size, is painful but something every puppy/young dog owner of such a breed must deal with. For example, he’s not a cuddly frustration ball 😀 With other dogs, Miyu is still very inexperienced, but does great in our large group and shows himself to be very good-natured. He lives in a mixed flat and gets along with everyone, still acting like a proper young pup. His new people should ideally have breed experience. We do not want to place Miyu somewhere where it’s just “oh wow, I want a Wolfhound,” but where people are aware of what these very special dogs bring. People who understand that it might never be possible to leave the dog home alone. People who know that he can still be much more skeptical and defensive towards strangers. People who are willing to work a lot with Miyu and who have the time, knowledge, and finesse to turn this special dog into a relaxed companion.

About Miyu

What life with Miyu looks like

Miyu is a large puppy/kitten dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miyu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miyu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miyu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miyu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miyu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miyu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miyu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
