Adopt Moana

Podenco · Female · Puppy

Moana ID No.: 1041967 Breed: Podenco Andaluz Age: approx. 08/2024 Sex: female Shoulder height: approx. 47 cm Neutered/Spayed: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form The name Moana means sea, open water, or ocean breeze. In Hawaiian culture, this name signifies reverence for the ocean. Moana (*08/2024, approx. 47 cm) was given her name because she survived several days of severe coastal storms in Spain near the sea. She was found completely exhausted, emaciated, wet, and shivering after seeking shelter in a backyard, where she hid fearfully in a corner. Too weak to flee, she was quickly secured and brought to our Spanish partner shelter TripleA in Marbella in January 2026. Despite her fear, she ate with great appetite and, snuggled in blankets, quickly fell asleep. After her initial recovery period, Moana was able to move into a group of female dogs—including other Podencos—and immediately revealed her true character: Moana is an extremely playful, cheerful, and active young female Podenco, full of energy, joie de vivre, and charm. She loves running in the dog enclosure, playing with other dogs, and spending time with volunteers. When scratched on her back, she enthusiastically flops onto the ground, joyfully inviting play. Moana is very eager to learn, clever, and highly food-motivated, so she will surely grasp the basics of living with humans quickly. We are looking for an active home for Moana, ideally with at least one other dog, as she feels especially comfortable in a pack. With new dogs, she can initially be somewhat excited and prone to barking, but she is always friendly and social. After a short while, she relaxes and forms new friendships. We cannot yet say for certain whether Moana would feel comfortable in an urban environment. However, we have observed that with a confident dog by her side, she becomes noticeably braver and more curious, handling new situations well. Moana is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and holds an EU pet passport. Prior to travel arrangements, she will be tested for Mediterranean diseases and treated for worms and fleas. Vaccinations: Yes Mediterranean disease check: Will be completed Microchip: Yes Known illnesses: None Suitable for apartment living: No Transport included Contact person: Ruth Bachhausen Phone: Email:. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Moana

What life with Moana looks like

Moana is a large puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Moana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Moana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Moana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Moana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Moana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Moana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Moana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
