Momo & Aika

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

The sisters Momo and Aika moved in with us on June 13, 2017, after we rescued them with the help of the fire department from a burning farm where their owners had left them. In the last minute, they were saved from the flames that were already close to the enclosure where they had to live, and the thick smoke made breathing difficult for them. Even before the fire, the animals on this farm were not doing well. There were repeated complaints about the living conditions. For example, the enclosure for Momo and Aika was too small at 6m² (even according to legal requirements) for the two young and lively female dogs, and they had to relieve themselves in this cramped space. As a result, the entire area, including the roof of their shelter, was completely soiled. They also did not have access to water, and their feeding bowls were filled with moldy remnants of some food that was not suitable for dog consumption. Momo and Aika are very cuddly and always want to be near humans. They get along well with children, as well as with cats and other animals. While they now get along with some dogs, they do not with others. When playing with other dogs, we sometimes have to hold them back a bit because they often play very physically and vigorously, which can be too much for other dogs. The two walk well on a leash, enjoy car rides, and can also be left alone for a while. Since Momo and Aika have been sisters their whole lives, we prefer to find them a shared place. If you would like to meet Momo and Aika, we look forward to your call. About Momo & Aika

What life with Momo & Aika looks like

Momo & Aika is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Häuser der Hoffnung e.V. in Grassau.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Momo & Aika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Momo & Aika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Häuser der Hoffnung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Momo & Aika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Momo & Aika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Häuser der Hoffnung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Momo & Aika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Momo & Aika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Häuser der Hoffnung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Momo & Aika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
