Adopt Monty

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten

Monty Tier-ID: 1145 At the animal shelter since April 19, 2026, Monty is a friendly and open tomcat who greets people with ease and shows interest in his surroundings. He gives off a simple and unassuming impression and is curious about everything happening around him. However, his backstory is somber. Upon taking Monty in, we were able to locate his previous owners through a missing pet report. After contacting them, we informed them that taking over the costs associated with his care would be necessary. Unfortunately, contact was subsequently broken off, and further attempts to reach them were unsuccessful. Thus, Monty remained with us and now waits for people who won't abandon him. Additionally, Monty was diagnosed with feline herpes, a common illness in cats that many can live with comfortably. We would be happy to provide interested parties with detailed information about what this means for his future care. For Monty, we wish for a loving home where he can finally settle permanently. After an appropriate period of adjustment, we hope he will once again have the opportunity to go outside, as he is familiar with and appreciates this. His friendly and open nature makes him a tomcat who primarily desires: people who take responsibility and welcome him as a family member. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Monty

What life with Monty looks like

Monty is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Lippstadt und Umgebung e.V. in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Monty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Monty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Lippstadt und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Monty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Monty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Lippstadt und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Monty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Monty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Lippstadt und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Monty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
