adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Monty has found its own home! His story: Monty could travel to his foster home in 95496 Glashütten at the beginning of January. Monty sounds like a true dream dog according to his foster mom! A small all-rounder with a calm and thoughtful nature, but still playful and eager to learn – the perfect combination! That he is already house-trained, gets along with children, chickens, and even horses shows how well socialized he is. His enjoyment of car rides is also a big plus for families who like to travel. Monty is about 4 months old and is expected to grow to be medium-sized like his mother. We assume that his mother, based on her appearance, is a Rauhaar Podenco mix. Podencos are both hunting and scent hounds. This means they are agile, attentive, intelligent, and eager to learn. They usually have a strong prey drive (especially on rabbits) and can sprint quickly and make sharp turns. Podencos figure out what is allowed and what is not very quickly. Due to their breeding, they are considered tough and adaptable. Podencos have a strong desire for freedom, and with their pronounced prey drive, off-leash training is only partially possible and requires a lot of training. Since the Podenco was bred for independence, consistent but loving upbringing from the start is very important. Regular mental stimulation and training in the form of mental exercises, dummy training, scent searches, or sniffing games are appropriate. During puberty, he will certainly test boundaries and may even forget some things he has learned. But once this phase is overcome, Monty will definitely be a great lifelong partner. His enthusiasm for new things and the desire to attend more dog training classes make him ideal for people who want to actively work with him and continue to foster his development. Monty is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings an EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive Hannah! You named Monty. Status: 26.01.

Podencos finden schnell heraus, was erlaubt und was tabu ist. Vielen Dank an Hannah! Du hast Monty seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 26.01.2025

About Monty

What life with Monty looks like

Monty is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Monty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Monty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Monty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Monty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Monty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Monty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Monty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
