Mouse

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 6 years

Mouse, a beautiful 7-year-old female cat, has likely spent her entire life on the streets. Her life on the streets has been tough, with constant searches for food, a dry place to sleep, and multiple litters of kittens. People are not always trustworthy, with some offering food while others chase her away. Mouse has had a difficult past and we want to give her a better future. She requires a lot of time, attention, and love. At this point, touching her is not possible. We are looking for a quiet place for her with someone who understands cat language and has experience with this type of cat. Someone with a lot of patience and not too high expectations. They know that trust is the foundation on which something beautiful can be built. Mouse may turn into a very affectionate, cuddly housemate over time. We think it would be great for Mouse if you already have a loving, social cat who can use a companion. She understands cats, but not humans. Then she can learn the art of cuddling from your cat and feel more at ease. Are you the lid that Mouse is looking for? Please contact us! About Mouse

What life with Mouse looks like

Mouse is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierentehuis Zeist in AA Austerlitz.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mouse, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mouse?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Zeist handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mouse on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mouse if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Zeist will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mouse already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mouse isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Zeist early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mouse and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
