Múrga

Mixed Breed · Female

A female cat named Kisan, a 14-year-old Bengal, is in good health. We take her to the vet annually for check-ups and have also had her checked for urinary issues that we are currently dealing with. All tests have been negative and there is no indication of any underlying medical issues. She has always been an indoor cat and is very anxious about going outside. We moved her to a house where she has no opportunity to go outside. Since then, she has had trouble adjusting and has been peeing in the house and on furniture, mostly because she is with two other cats that we clean regularly. We have tried various methods, including pheromone diffusers, but it hasn't helped. She is like a wild cat at home and we have taken her to the vet to see if it would help her adjust. We have separated them and each of them has their own space in the house. She still doesn't seem to adjust well to these conditions. She has always been anxious about freedom and going outside and I don't know what else I can do to help her. That's why I am considering finding her a new home where she can feel safe and have the opportunity to go outside - for example, with someone who lives in a quiet environment, out in the country or on a farm where she would have access to the outdoors. It's very difficult for me to write this. I am sitting here crying and I don't know what to do. We don't just want to "put her down". We want to find a home where she can live her last years in peace. If anyone knows of a person or a home that would take her in, or has any ideas on what we can do, I would be very grateful to hear from you.

About Múrga

What life with Múrga looks like

Múrga is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dýrahjálp Íslands in Iceland.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇮🇸Adopting from Iceland

Icelandic shelters work under strict import/export rules — Iceland has no native rabies, so any animal coming in faces extended quarantine. Domestic placement is the norm.

Frequently asked

Adopting Múrga, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Múrga?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dýrahjálp Íslands handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Múrga on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Múrga if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dýrahjálp Íslands will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Múrga already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Múrga isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dýrahjálp Íslands early rather than rehoming privately; they know Múrga and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
