Murray

Mixed Breed · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: The loving mixed-breed male dog Murray was sighted wandering through the bushes with two other dogs (one of them is Mavis, the third is already rehomed). All the dogs were extremely thin. They had likely been on the streets for a long time and had never found enough food. The animal shelter staff tried to secure the dogs, but it proved difficult. The dogs were skeptical and wouldn’t be caught or lured in. Leaving them to their fate was not an option. So, large traps were set up, and the dogs were lured with food and water. Indeed, the animal rescuers managed to catch all three dogs one by one. The first few days at the animal shelter, Murray was still quite impressed by everything and showed a reserved attitude towards the caregivers. With Mavis and the other male dog in the run, he got along absolutely without any problems. The staff at the animal shelter made great efforts to win the young male dogs over. So, he became more trusting day by day. He is still not one to immediately beg for cuddles from people, but he has learned that there are also good and friendly people. The staff can stroke him, and you can see: he wants to! He wants the closeness to humans, he just needs time and his own pace. Throughout it all, the handsome fellow is always friendly and kind. Murray was also already walking together with his buddy Mavis. That, as well as the car ride, he handled perfectly. Of course, everything is still new to him, and he can surely still learn a lot more. We wish the young fellow that too. He should be allowed to learn many more wonderful things. We are looking for patient, experienced, and empathetic people who can give Murray the time and security he needs. He can be rehomed as a second dog.

About Murray

What life with Murray looks like

Murray is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Murray, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Murray?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Murray on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Murray if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Murray already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Murray isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Murray and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
