Nacho &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male

Nacho is one of those dogs where you think after just three seconds: "Oh come on, I'll just take this one." Understandable. Really. This young fellow is not only cute but also a real mood-lifter on four legs: funny, open, friendly, and equipped with an energy that could probably power a small community. Visually, Nacho hints at a dachshund, perhaps with a touch of Griffon Vendéen – essentially the charming mix of "I'm small, but oh well" and "By the way, I have an excellent nose and my own ideas." The result is absolutely charming. But, and this is important: one should not adopt Nacho just because he looks so cute. Under this compact package lies no decorative dog but a young hunting mix with wit, brains, and a solid portion of "I decide that for myself." Dachshunds and Griffons are hunting dogs. They were not bred to lie on sofa cushions and occasionally pose for a photo with a tilted head. They want to use their noses, explore their environment, get tasks, and be accompanied by people who are friendly, clear, and consistent. Nacho therefore does not seek a home that throws all the rules out the window at the first loyal glance. He seeks people who are willing to work with him, challenge him, and explain the world to him – lovingly but firmly. Because if one does not take the lead with such characters, they will take it themselves. Before you know it, you are no longer at the wheel but living in a very cute dachshund republic with ambitious plans for world domination. This does not mean that Nacho is "difficult" – quite the opposite. He is a great, cheerful young dog who becomes an excellent companion with the right people by his side. But our caramel-colored snuggle ball comes with needs, instincts, and personality. For those who enjoy active walks, meaningful mental stimulation, training, and not just finding a cute dog but also taking it seriously, Nacho could be a true heart dog. Nacho does not want to be underestimated. He wants to belong, learn, and go through life as a true team player with his favorite people. If you are looking for a plush dog rather than a lively original with charm, wit, and probably a pretty convincing hunting heritage, then getting to know Nacho is well worth it. He brings the best prerequisites to become a wonderful companion – for people with a sense of humor, a heart, and a certain willingness to engage in ambitious discussions with short-legged interlocutors with (highly unfair) dachshund gazes. Nacho seeks a home that looks beyond the cute exterior and consciously decides for him, with knowledge of dachshund heads, energy levels, and the time invested in a hunting mix.

DE·Show original

About Nacho &#8211

What life with Nacho &#8211 looks like

Nacho &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nacho &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nacho &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nacho &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nacho &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nacho &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nacho &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nacho &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
