Nairobi - calm mixed breed dog seeking security and a fresh start Nairobi is a mixed breed dog currently living in a Spanish animal shelter. She was found on the street and had to quickly adapt to an entirely new environment. Such a change is often very stressful for an adult dog. The noise of a shelter, the many unfamiliar dogs, and the lack of stable contact persons can quickly overwhelm - accordingly, Nairobi initially appeared understandably frightened and insecure. However, with some time she began to slowly adjust to her new situation. She now lives together with a male dog, and their coexistence is harmonious. Nairobi also shows herself to be generally unobtrusive and social when interacting with other dogs. She enjoys being active and especially likes walks, although at first she can still pull on the leash. After the first few minutes, however, she usually adapts well to the situation and walks much more relaxed. People, everyday noises, and passing cars do not seem to particularly unsettle her. While some dogs may show interest during walks, Nairobi calmly passes by many others. It is particularly nice to see that Nairobi enjoys small breaks: When her walks take her to the water, she really enjoys swimming in the river with her dog friend. For Nairobi, we wish for an active, yet calm and patient home where she can leave behind the stress of shelter life and continue to gain security. A regular routine, reliable contact persons, and regular walks would help her build trust further and truly settle in. Important to note always: Even though Nairobi already masters many things well, moving to a new home is always a big change for a rescue dog. New routines, household noises, and living in close contact with people often need to be learned. Also, we know nothing about her previous training and whether she has even had experience living in a household. Therefore, the decision to adopt a dog should never be made carelessly. Nairobi needs people who take responsibility, give her time, and are ready to patiently accompany her through this new chapter of her life. Whoever gives her this chance will finally give a calm and sensitive dog the security she deserves. Ideally, we are looking for a home for Nairobi. At the current time, however, a foster home would also be a great help and a huge improvement for Nairobi's life. Here is Dumbo's video Here is Dumbo's video

About Nairobi

What life with Nairobi looks like

Nairobi is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nairobi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nairobi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nairobi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nairobi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nairobi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nairobi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nairobi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
