Nala

Bernese Mountain Dog · Female · Adult · 4 years

Nala is a beautiful 4-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog mix. She came to us after being given up. Nala is comfortable living both indoors and outdoors. At night, she slept in the bedroom. Nala is a sweet cuddler with a gentle nature. When she doesn't know you, Nala can be a bit scared and reserved. Unfortunately, she hasn't seen much of the outside world yet. She isn't car sick but also didn't often ride in cars. She could easily stay home alone for 2 hours. She is house trained and doesn't chew on anything anymore. Nala didn't try to escape; the fence was 2m high. Nala wasn't used to going for walks, so she isn't familiar with a leash yet. This needs further work, but in the meantime, she is already trying her best to walk calmly. Now Nala is looking for her forever home. She will be looking for a home without other dogs. She is looking for owners who understand that sometimes the world can be scary, but want to explore it with her. Nala won't be placed with young children. She is looking for a home where she can be 100% part of the family. Who will give Nala her forever home? Meetings are always by appointment and after filling out our questionnaire via email. It doesn't make sense to come without an appointment or contact us by phone.

NL·Show original

About Nala

What life with Nala looks like

Nala is a adult bernese mountain dog dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nala, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nala?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nala on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nala if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nala already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nala isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nala and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
