Nanis

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Nanis is a curious, sensitive dog who is very attached to his caregivers. Once he trusts someone, he is very affectionate and loves being petted. He enjoys being around his people, but prefers a quiet environment. He loves to run, sniff, and engage in tracking, balance on walls and tree trunks, and loves the snow. What Nanis needs: Nanis is not a beginner dog. He needs people with patience, understanding, and a willingness to continue working with him in a positive and step-by-step manner. He can currently only stay alone for a very short time. The duration depends heavily on the environment and situation and requires continued practice. When encountering other dogs, he is influenced by his sympathy. He gets along well with other dogs at the dog shelter. However, he barks at some dogs on a leash and jumps into the leash. Progress has been made, but further training is needed for safety and stability. He has a strong hunting instinct. Therefore, cats or other small animals are not suitable. Free running is only possible on a securely and sufficiently fenced-in area. Loud noises, large crowds, running children, thunderstorms, and fireworks frighten him greatly. Car rides, public transportation, or restaurant visits are generally possible as long as the environment remains calm and does not overwhelm him. Desire for a new home: Nanis would like: - A rather quiet, rural home - Experienced dog owners with a willingness for further positive training with a trainer - A house or apartment with a securely fenced garden would be ideal, but not mandatory - No cats or other pets - No children or children from about 14 years old - Enough time, patience, and understanding for a sensitive and sometimes insecure dog who does not want to be left alone without training - A protection contract, similar to what the association provides - Several introductory walks with the trainer and me to ensure that Nanis fits in with the new "family" Why Nanis is looking for a new home: This decision is extremely difficult for me. Nanis is a member of my family and I love him dearly. Unfortunately, my health has developed in recent years in such a way that I can no longer provide for him in the long term. Therefore, it would be better for Nanis to find a home with people who can give him the necessary time, energy, and stability permanently. I wish from the bottom of my heart that Nanis finds the place he deserves.

Was Nanis braucht Nanis ist kein Anfängerhund.

About Nanis

What life with Nanis looks like

Nanis is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hilf dem Tier in Hilf Dem Tier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nanis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nanis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hilf dem Tier handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nanis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nanis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hilf dem Tier will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nanis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nanis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hilf dem Tier early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nanis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
