Nanook

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

02-08-26 Please meet the very handsome Nanook, a truly special older gentleman who has come into our care through no fault of his own. We were contacted by a veterinary practice after his owners sadly no longer wanted him and asked to have him put to sleep. Thankfully, the kind vets knew Nanook deserved another chance and reached out to us, and we're so grateful they did. We are told that he is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Alaskan Malamute. Nanook is the sweetest, most loving boy who wears his heart on his sleeve. He absolutely adores people and wants nothing more than to be by your side, soaking up all the fuss and affection you can give him. He has so much love to offer and gives his whole heart to everyone he meets and will even shower you with kisses. He's simply a joy to be around. Understandably, Nanook is finding kennel life quite stressful. After living in a home, the busy kennel environment is a big adjustment for him, and we would love nothing more than to see him settled into a loving forever home as soon as possible. As Nanook has previously lived in a home, he should be house trained, although we can never guarantee this in a new environment. He walks nicely on a lead and will enjoy exploring on walks with his new family before heading home for plenty of cuddles. He can pull slightly on the lead when passing dogs who bark at him and can sometimes be reactive in return, so his adopters will need to work on this with him. Nanook could happily be homed as an only dog, where he can enjoy all the love and attention to himself, but he could also be homed with another calm and gentle resident dog. His ideal home would be with someone who is around for most of the day, as he truly loves human company and will make a wonderfully loyal companion. We would consider homing him with teenagers ages 16+, as although he has been the perfect gentleman with everyone he has met here, we have no prior history and he has never met children. If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate best friend who will repay your kindness with endless love and devotion, then Nanook could be the perfect addition to your family. Nanook does have some arthritis in his hind end and is currently on a joint supplement to help this but he would also benefit from building up some muscle. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Nanook

What life with Nanook looks like

Nanook is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nanook, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nanook?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nanook on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nanook if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nanook already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nanook isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nanook and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
