Nanuk (m)

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Our beautiful Nanuk was probably born in 2022 and is about 55 cm tall. His life began anything but happily. Nanuk comes from a terrible animal-hoarding case in Romania. Together with many other dogs, he lived under appalling conditions until dedicated animal welfare activists uncovered the case and were able to rescue the dogs. Afterwards, an appeal for help spread throughout Romania, and numerous organizations took in dogs from this case. That’s how Nanuk found his way to the private animal shelter of our animal welfare partner Dana in Botoșani. Despite everything he’s been through, Nanuk has retained his friendly nature. He approaches people openly and warmly, is cheerful, always in a good mood, and gets incredibly excited every time one of the caregivers enters his kennel. His joy of life is simply contagious. At the moment, Nanuk still lives in a makeshift kennel and thoroughly enjoys every bit of attention he receives. He’s especially thrilled about eating—his joy knows hardly any bounds. What we can’t yet assess with certainty is how he’ll behave around other dogs. Initially, he used to growl at free-roaming dogs that came near his kennel. This behavior has since subsided. Nevertheless, we’d like to be honest here: It’s not possible to test such situations in a controlled manner at the shelter. Therefore, we’d first like to find Nanuk a home as an only dog, so he can settle in peacefully without taking any unnecessary risks. Over time, it will certainly become clearer how he develops when interacting with other dogs of his own species. Nanuk has left his past behind and looks forward with hope. All he needs now is the most important thing: people who will show him that he’ll never again have to struggle for safety, love, and security. Who will finally give this wonderful guy the chance for a real home? If there’s already a cat living in the new home, we’d be happy to carry out a cat test on site to provide an initial assessment. Nanuk is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and, of course, comes with an EU pet passport. Contact: Nanuk is being rehomed through Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V.—with pre-adoption screening and a protection contract. The association naturally holds the necessary permit according to §11 of the Animal Welfare Act. Even after adoption, we’ll continue to support you—both human and animal. As soon as Nanuk is adopted, he’ll travel safely to Germany via Traces and arrive in 91278 Pottenstein, where he’ll be picked up by his new family. A secured property is available there. We ask for your understanding that we don’t want to arrange meet-ups at parking lots and would prefer to personally introduce you to your new friend.

About Nanuk (m)

What life with Nanuk (m) looks like

Nanuk (m) is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. in Nürnberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nanuk (m), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nanuk (m)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nanuk (m) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nanuk (m) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nanuk (m) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nanuk (m) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nanuk (m) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
