Adopt Napoleon

Chihuahua · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Schnappoleon Our Schnappi was surrendered to us in March 2026 after a biting incident and had already had at least three previous owners. It's clear that he has learned that everything always follows his nose and no one dares to contradict him. As long as this is the case, Schnappi is a very pleasant, rather unobtrusive roommate. He remains problem-free for up to 5 hours alone, is house-trained, likes to go for long walks, barks hardly at all, loves car rides, and enjoys being wrapped in a blanket on the sofa. Up until now, a Schnappi has unfortunately only known one response when his will is not accepted, and that is to growl and, if necessary, use his teeth. Whether it's about wanting to leash him, pulling him off the sofa, blocking his path, or enforcing any other ban, it doesn't matter. On his foster home, Schnappi lives with a muzzle, so that every situation and every training can be handled safely. Clear rules and structure help him find new solutions over time. However, it will likely be a long road until he can abandon his ingrained behaviors, which he has established over 7 years. We are looking for an experienced home for him, one that offers clear, consistent, and compassionate structure and recognizes him as the serious dog with character that he is. Schnappoleon will not be rehomed with beginners or families with children. Schnappi gets along well with other dogs and can also be rehomed as a single dog.

About Napoleon

What life with Napoleon looks like

Napoleon is a adult chihuahua dog waiting at Tierheim Koblenz in Koblenz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Napoleon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Napoleon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Koblenz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Napoleon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Napoleon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Koblenz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Napoleon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Napoleon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Koblenz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Napoleon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
