Nebraska

Akita · Female · Puppy · 7 months

Personality: Nebraska is a young dog full of life, who is still discovering the world around her. Curious, playful and very affectionate, she can sometimes be a bit shy in certain situations, but she quickly calms down and regains confidence. Ideal environment and home: We are looking for a family - children are accepted - that is available and will have time to dedicate to her every day. A stable and caring environment will allow her to grow peacefully and become a balanced and confident dog. Required experience: Previous experience with primitive type dogs will be an asset. A follow-up with a professional in the canine world is recommended in order to best welcome Nebraska. Compatibility: Nebraska grew up with her parents and sister. She does not yet know cats: the first meetings should therefore be gentle and gradual. Special needs: Like any young dog, Nebraska needs an involved family, ready to provide her with enough mental and physical exercise to meet her needs and promote her healthy development. We remind you that Nebraska is still a puppy: her size and weight will naturally evolve over time. If you think you can offer her the happy life she deserves, we would be delighted to meet you! In case of interest, please complete the online form "request - interest in adopting a dog". If the criteria explicitly required in the presentation texts of the dogs are not met, no further action will be taken on the adoption request. Please also read our placement philosophy. About Nebraska

What life with Nebraska looks like

Nebraska is a medium-sized puppy/kitten akita dog waiting at SPA Fribourg in Font.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nebraska, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nebraska?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Fribourg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nebraska on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nebraska if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Fribourg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nebraska already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nebraska isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Fribourg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nebraska and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
