Neil

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Neil is a two-year-old Galgo (as of September 2023), who has been in the care of Arca Sevilla for a little more than six months. Volunteers found the young dog in the spring on a field, naturally right at the end of the hunting season, likely abandoned by a hunter. Neil was also injured and could only use three of its elegant legs. At the animal clinic, it was determined that his kneecap needs to be operated on – whether the injury came from a car accident or Neil was left to die in a desolate area with a broken leg (as the oft-cited tradition in some regions of Southern Europe requires), we do not know. As in most cases, we do not want to know, our wonderful athlete lives in the present and hopefully awaits the most beautiful future one can imagine. Neil underwent surgery on his leg, and his knee is now fully load-bearing. Frisky and lively like a stream-fed Adonis, he happily runs and jumps with his friends at the animal shelter, animating all the visitors and understanding, like a true super sportsman, that after the sport, massages and relaxation should be on the agenda. Unfortunately, there is not much time at the animal shelter for extensive cuddles and snuggling with the two-legged favorites, but Neil still does not lose heart and always has a good mood. Neil wishes for a family that has plenty of time for playing and running around. Children would certainly be very welcome to the jolly companion, and our young fellow would probably not object to a cheerful four-legged roommate either. Neil likes to be outdoors, but he also needs regular quiet time and lots of affection and love. Galgos are typically already real cuddle monsters, but our long-legged friend Neil shows exceptional talent in this discipline. Whether you want to lie in his dog bed or generously offer a spot on the couch, our gentleman leaves it up to you – he just wants to ensure that you never forget his regular massages, accompanied by many loving words from you and wet kisses from him! If you fall in love with our tender and witty light athlete, we look forward to hearing from you – Neil has his passport already within reach.

DE·Show original

About Neil

What life with Neil looks like

Neil is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Neil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Neil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Neil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Neil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Neil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Neil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Neil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
