NELLA

Podenco · Female · Senior · 11 years

- Sex: Female - Age: 11 years - Size: Medium - Suitable for city living: Yes - Can live on a floor (without outdoor access): Yes - Suitable with dogs: Yes - Suitable with cats: No - Suitable with children: Yes - Daily exercise needs: High - Health: Good (has a small eye malformation, sees perfectly and leads a normal life) - Special needs: Needs a family aware of her separation anxiety who can help her gradually improve. She benefits greatly from the company of other animals to stay more calm. NELLA has spent practically her entire life in adoption. She was adopted a few years ago and had to return to her family due to circumstances completely unrelated to her. We know that as they get older, people tend to overlook them, but we don't lose hope. The permanent family for NELLA is close. NELLA is an 11-year-old Andalusian Podenco Hound, medium-sized (12 kg). NELLA is a little special; she requires a lot of patience, firmness, and setting boundaries from the start. It's advisable that she lives with another dog to help with her separation anxiety. On the street, she can be reactive towards other dogs she encounters, but she quickly gets along with them in a social setting. She is incompatible with cats. With people, she is very affectionate and sociable once she has earned your trust.

About NELLA

What life with NELLA looks like

NELLA is a small senior podenco dog waiting at ADALA Zaragoza in Zaragoza.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting NELLA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about NELLA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ADALA Zaragoza handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw NELLA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt NELLA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ADALA Zaragoza will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is NELLA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if NELLA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ADALA Zaragoza early rather than rehoming privately; they know NELLA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
