Nelly

Female · Young · 1 year

Nelly, a 1.5-year-old spayed female, is medium-sized and from abroad. Background: Nelly was rescued as a young puppy from the streets by a "animal collector." This man, who may have had good intentions, had more than 300 dogs and cats in his house and garden. All in poor condition, malnourished, in too small cages and living in their own feces. As many animals as possible were removed, but unfortunately 130 dogs are still there. Our contact Cezara was lucky to have a place available in her shelter and was able to save Nelly. Character: Nelly is a sweet dog; she always wags her tail when she's happy. After everything she has been through, she is so happy with attention and hugs. At first, she is a bit uncertain in new situations, but as soon as she sees that everything is fine, she comes to you and wants nothing more than to be petted and hugged. Despite everything she has been through (as a puppy in a house with 100 other dogs and later in a much too small kennel in the garden), she has retained her sweet, gentle character. She is social with people, dogs, and cats. We are looking for loving owners and a lovely home for Nelly, where she can enjoy peace, space, freedom of movement, and a cozy bed for the first time in her life. A new world will open up for Nelly.

NL·Show original

Nelly, gesteriliseerd teefje, 1,5 jaar, is middelgroot, buitenland. Achtergrond.

About Nelly

What life with Nelly looks like

Nelly is a large young adult dog waiting at Stichting AAI in Amsterdam.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting AAI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting AAI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting AAI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
