Nelly

Labrador Retriever · Female · Puppy · 10 months

Nelly is a lovely young girl with plenty of energy and a fun personality. Being young, she has lots of enthusiasm to burn and would love an active family who can give her plenty of exercise, enrichment and opportunities to explore. She really enjoys interacting with people she knows and, once she has built that bond, loves their attention and company. Nelly does like having her own space, so she would be happiest as the only dog in her new home. However, she would enjoy having some doggy friends to meet up with for walks and adventures. Nelly is looking for a patient, understanding family who will give her time to settle and get to know them. Nelly is a sweet, sensitive girl who is looking for a special person to help her blossom. She loves nothing more than finding her trusted people for reassurance, affection and a little bit of comfort. Once she knows and trusts you, she really enjoys being close and forming that special bond. Nelly can be a little unsure of new places, unfamiliar situations and unexpected sounds, so she would love a calm and understanding home where she can take things at her own pace. Her new family will need to be patient, reassuring and willing to give her the time she needs to feel safe and confident. In return, Nelly has so much love to give. For someone who understands her sensitive nature and is prepared to help her build her confidence, she could become a wonderful and devoted companion.

About Nelly

What life with Nelly looks like

Nelly is a puppy/kitten labrador retriever dog waiting at Dogs Trust Newbury in Newbury.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Newbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Newbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Newbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
