Nelly

Mastiff Β· Female

Meet Nelly - Our beautiful girl with a very sad story. Nelly was found tied up with nothing but a paddling pool for shelter when she was no longer needed for breeding. This has been a sad start to her life but we are ready to give her the best next chapter. Nelly is a very sociable and loving girl with so much energy and loves nothing more than zooming around with a toy and playing outside. She would really benefit from a home with access to a garden as she does love spending time outside and entertaining herself with a toy. With Nelly on the odd occasion she can get a bit over excited and mouthy but we can very easily distract this onto a toy for her to go off and play with. With this in mind we are looking for a home with children aged 16 years upwards and will help give her the space and time she needs. Nellys history is a sad one and understandably she can get spooked at some things, more so when she is inside so she will need a home that are comfortable with working with this and giving her the confidence she needs in a home. She will like any rescue dog need time to adjust and settle into what may be a very new environment for her. We have been doing lots of work with her in our indoor bedsit to help her gain confidence whilst she waits for a home.

About Nelly

What life with Nelly looks like

Nelly is a medium-sized adult mastiff dog waiting at RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Braintree.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Danaher Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” RSPCA Danaher Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Nelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Danaher Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
