Nelly

Scottish Fold · Female

🐾 Nelly—seeking people who can truly give her the time she needs 🐾 Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. We were really excited when Nelly was adopted—but unfortunately, she’s already back with us after just three weeks. For most cats, though, three weeks is hardly enough time to adjust to a new environment, new people, and a completely changed daily routine. That’s why we’re now looking for people who are consciously prepared to allow Nelly the time she needs to settle in and who can give her the patience she so desperately requires. Nelly is a beautiful Scottish Fold with a character all her own. She’s curious, playful, and can be incredibly cuddly—but she always decides for herself when she’d like some closeness. Her body language is very clear. If her boundaries aren’t respected or if she feels pressured, she’ll make that perfectly clear with a gentle warning bite. This isn’t unpredictable behavior; it’s simply her way of communicating. Anyone who takes the time to get to know Nelly will discover an intelligent cat who loves to play, attentively observes her humans, and definitely seeks their company—but only on her own terms. For Nelly, we’re looking for a calm home without children and without other pets. We’re seeking experienced cat owners who understand that trust doesn’t develop overnight and who are willing to give a cat the space it needs to feel comfortable in its new surroundings. We’d love to hear from people who honestly ask themselves before adopting whether they have the patience, understanding, and composure needed—and who’ll stand by their decision even during the adjustment period. Cats need time. Some need more than others. Nelly is one of those cats who not only needs this time but also deserves it. Anyone who approaches Nelly with respect, patience, and heart will gain a truly special companion—a cat with character who doesn’t give away her trust easily, but who shows it all the more honestly once she’s fully settled in. 🐾

About Nelly

What life with Nelly looks like

Nelly is a adult scottish fold cat waiting at Tierheim Wuppertal in Wuppertal.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wuppertal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wuppertal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wuppertal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
