Neptune

Greyhound · Male · Adult · 4 years

Meet our stunning boy Neptune. Neptune is an ex-racer Greyhound and is looking for a calm and loving home where he can live out his years. He is a sweet and sensitive soul who true to his breed has shown some chase behaviours when out on walks so will need to be kept on-lead and muzzled when in public spaces. Neptune can be worried of new people and handling and at times is overwhelmed with the wider world. He will need patient new owners who are willing to go at his pace and allow him the time and space he needs to settle into a home. Neptune likes other dogs and has some lovely social skills in place. He particularly likes the company of other greyhounds which helps boost his confidence. He could live with another dog that is the right match for him. A tolerant and friendly role model who can show him the world is not such a scary place! Neptune is looking for a home away from the inner city with access to his own private garden. He can live with teens 13+ who will respect his space and help play a role in his daily training. Neptune is a sensitive soul with a heart of gold. He will need patient and understanding owners who can gradually introduce him to the wider world and help him find his feet! If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Neptune, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About Neptune

What life with Neptune looks like

Neptune is a large adult greyhound dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Neptune, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Neptune?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Neptune on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Neptune if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Neptune already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Neptune isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Neptune and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
