Neyade

European Shorthair · Female · Senior · 15 years

If you like strong-willed girls and challenges, Neyade is made for you! Once you get to know Neyade, you will not be able to remain indifferent. She's a feisty girl with a sweet side, the type of "I like humans in real life but that must not be known because I have my pride!" When Neyade arrived at the Refuge four years ago, she was abandoned. In the first cattery where she was placed, the girl was absolutely unapproachable, hissing at the slightest approach even from afar, and remained locked up high in a hiding spot, as she did not tolerate the presence of other cats. Everything had to be placed high up for her: food bowls, litter boxes... Until she was moved to the English cattery where tough socialization began! At first, I left her high up with everything she needed, letting her get used to this new environment quietly. Then, over the weeks, I gradually brought everything down to "force" her to come down a bit. Once she got used to coming down for her food and litter box needs, we started approaching her. She was already starting to make some progress, as initially even with the brush it was impossible. The slightest touch and she would send the brush flying into the air with such aggression! A little "training" every day, then volunteer Tante Evelise joined me in this effort to socialize our favorite "louloute." When she saw us coming, we could feel through her expression "Oh no, not them again!" In short, it took time, a lot of time, patience, perseverance, scratches, bites, pieces of skin missing, bruises... But the work paid off! So for those who are warned, Neyade will always remain Neyade (and that's why we love her!): a first-class charmer. Who now comes rubbing against your legs, even with visitors she doesn't know, comes to lie on your knees, and lets her heart open up to you; very affectionate, but still keeps her underlying character, she loves to complain, is not a fan of big manipulations or too insistent or lengthy caresses, and above all, still does not tolerate the presence of other cats, although she is also evolving in that aspect. Due to these characteristics, even though Neyade seems to really like children, I would advise against a family with young children. You will need to learn her signals, her limits, learn to know her... and once this process is done, I am sure that living with Neyade will be a real delight! And plenty of good laughs as well! Especially since in a home without another cat, she will be even more peaceful than here in the cattery, and she will continue to evolve and surprise you, that's for sure. Don't hesitate to come meet her!

About Neyade

What life with Neyade looks like

Neyade is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at S.P.A Vauclusienne in Piégon.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Neyade, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Neyade?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. S.P.A Vauclusienne handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Neyade on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Neyade if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — S.P.A Vauclusienne will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Neyade already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Neyade isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with S.P.A Vauclusienne early rather than rehoming privately; they know Neyade and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
