Adopt Nico

Border Collie · Male · Young · 1 year

Nico – a wonderful young dog is looking for his people Nico has the standing ears from the Maneto and the curved ears from the Border Collie in his mix, making him already visually a funny unique. But Nico also excels with his good qualities. He is a friendly young dog, very playful and always cheerful. Despite his young age and his experience in animal care, he is already house-trained and well-behaved. He shows when he needs to go outside to do his business. He loves being with people, especially with children. One can play ball with him for hours, which of course shouldn't be overdone. He will surely also enjoy other activities. Maybe he has ambitions in the area of agility or other dog sports. A sleepyhead and a couch potato Nico definitely is not. His shoes must be put away from him, otherwise, he will transfer his playfulness to them. Children in the new home should be a bit older so that he does not discover the children's toys and start chewing on them. Further training of the young pup is therefore advisable and he should soon be allowed to attend dog training classes. Nico is compatible with other dogs. He was also accustomed to cats and shows them with curiosity and playfulness, which not every cat will appreciate. Nico was tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases and is now fully travel-ready. Now all that's missing is a home or a foster home, and then Nico will happily jump into his new life.

About Nico

What life with Nico looks like

Nico is a young adult border collie dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
