Nico

Male · Young · 1 year

Meet Nico our 1 year old male Patterdale available for adoption through Pawprints Dog Rescue. If you’re looking for a dog who’ll keep you smiling, get you out exploring and make every day a little more fun, then let us introduce you to Nico! Nico is a 1 year old Patterdale Terrier with bags of personality, and a charming character! Whether it’s heading off on a countryside adventure, sniffing out every interesting smell on a walk, or jumping in the car for a road trip, Nico is happiest when he’s by your side. He’s a brilliant traveller, walks beautifully on the lead and is happy meeting new people, even the vet. Even though he has been enjoying exploring, Nico can be a little unsure of new situations, it seems clear he hasn’t seen much of the world before, so he’s looking for a family who’ll help him discover that new places and experiences aren’t so scary. With a little patience, encouragement and plenty of treats, we’re sure his confidence will continue to blossom. Nico has missed out on some of the basics in life, so he’ll need someone happy to continue his training. He’s a clever young lad who enjoys learning and has so much potential. With positive training and a bit of consistency, he’s going to make someone an amazing companion. He would like his family to be around most of the time whilst he settles in to then build up time alone slowly. As with many young Patterdales, Nico is active, playful and always up for a game! He could happily live with older children who are used to lively dogs, although he can get a little overexcited and occasionally forgets that jumping up isn’t always appreciated! Nico is also a bit of a budding Houdini, so he’ll need a secure garden where he can play safely without plotting his next great escape. He’d like to be the only dog in the home for now while he continues working on his social skills, and he says no thank you to cats or other small furry pets. If you think Nico is the right addition to your life you will gain a loyal little shadow who’s always ready for the next adventure and guaranteed to make you laugh along the way.

About Nico

What life with Nico looks like

Nico is a small young adult dog waiting at Pawprints Dog Rescue in Stretton-on-Dunsmore.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pawprints Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pawprints Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pawprints Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
