Nika (Ніка)

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Nika spent her entire life on Donetsk. She had a family with whom she lived for 7 years. But when the time came to evacuate, a place for Nika couldn't be found. After seven years of living with people, she suddenly became unnecessary. Nika is a true Labrador. She loves to eat well, enjoys lying contentedly in the mud, loves to swim, and likes to carry toys in her mouth. She is a good, sincere, and very sociable dog. Recently, volunteers who were involved in her evacuation saw a photo of Nika with cats and were very surprised. Former owners told them that Nika doesn't like cats and might even bite them. Honestly, I found that amusing because Nika in our shelter is a true cat mom. She raised not just one foster kitten, but some of them still sleep right on her. Nika loves people, is good with other animals, and values a peaceful life with her human. Due to her extra weight, long active walks are not for her. But she happily walks with us in nature, not in a hurry, and occupied with her important doggy duties. We are looking for people with a similar character and lifestyle for Nika. The best match for her would be a private home with living in an apartment. Due to her age and extra weight, it will be difficult for her to constantly climb stairs in a high-rise, especially during power outages.

About Nika (Ніка)

What life with Nika (Ніка) looks like

Nika (Ніка) is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Dnipro in Ukraine.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇺🇦Adopting from Ukraine

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nika (Ніка), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nika (Ніка)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Dnipro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nika (Ніка) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nika (Ніка) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Dnipro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nika (Ніка) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nika (Ніка) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Dnipro early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nika (Ніка) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
