adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Nikan can stay forever in its foster home! 89129 Langenau. Nikan traveled to its foster home in early April! His story: Baia Mare, Romania. Our Nikan has been waiting so long for his happiness…who will show him how beautiful life is again? Nikan lives in the public shelter of Baia Mare and waits there with hundreds of other dogs for his home. We would so much wish him the freedom in a family that loves him from the heart! Nikan is now approximately 13 years old and thus falls into the senior department. His fur is matted, but his smile has not been lost. He is a friendly male dog, standing about 50-55 cm tall. Nikan has, however, never lived in a home and still has a lot to learn. When you take him out of his pen, he is a bit nervous. But he knows that, of course…so he is looking for people who will take him by the hand and show him how a species-appropriate life in a home works. With his beautiful fur color and his standing and crooked ear, he is definitely a highlight optically. Nikan generally has no problems with other animals outside of the pen, but we would rather match him with female dogs than male dogs. For Nikan, we wish for a loving and quieter home without much celebration and noise and not in the middle of the city. He would not feel comfortable there. Also, he would find less frequent trusted people and retreat possibilities better. One should not have any expectations of Nikan at first – because his life has not always been easy. But he also deserves to spend a beautiful last chapter of his life with his family and a lot of love. Nikan travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated to its new home. He brings an EU pet passport with him and would also be very happy with a foster home. Who will give Nikan its heart and save him from hell? Many thanks to Caro B.! You gave Nikan its name and thus an identity! Heartfelt thanks to Fabienne R.! You support Nikan with a monthly sponsorship. As of: 17.03. Best placed with a resident dog (second-dog home).

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Nikan darf für immer in seiner Pflegestelle bleiben! 89129 Langenau. Lieben Dank Fabienne R.! Du unterstützt Nikan mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft. Stand: 17.03.2024

About Nikan

What life with Nikan looks like

Nikan is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nikan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nikan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nikan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nikan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nikan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nikan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nikan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
