NIKOŚ

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Senior · 9 years

purebred American Staff, born May 27, 2017. Appearance: brown, striped, with large white spots. Character: cheerful, open to people, home-loving. Health: stabilized dermatological condition, before orthopedic surgery. Place of stay: temporary home, Warsaw. Contact for adoption: 501 797 018. NIKOŚ is a purebred American Staff, born May 27, 2017. He came to us from a small animal shelter in Poland, due to his health condition. It turned out to be really bad. Before us there were months of treatment to get this dog back on his paws. In recent days, we spent the most time in clinics with Niko, Tami and Layli. So far we have visited a internist, an orthopedist, and in the near future a cardiologist, ophthalmologist, dermatologist and dentist. With dogs like Niko, we don't know where to start, because wherever we touch, something needs to be taken care of. We are very happy that the animal shelter trusted us and gave us this four-legged friend under our wings. At the same time, we always repeat that we believe foundations are exactly to help such dogs in special need, which require time, attention, as individual approach as possible and a team of vets. Thank you. NIKOŚ when he arrived with us (thank you Marta and Maciek), he was not able to walk from the car to the building. He lay down every step, because his legs refused to obey. Today it's a little better, but there is a lot of work ahead of us. In the coming days we will give you a summary of Nikos's general condition, we will submit a report after the veterinary visits and tests. There is a lot. Today we would like to especially appeal to you for a foster home for Niko. A home, in the area of a large city, with access to advanced dog rehabilitation (a water treadmill is a must), ideally in Warsaw. We are looking for people who like challenges, with dedication and care, who can commit themselves for the next few months. People with a house with a garden, where NIKOŚ could go for short but very frequent walks (veterinary recommendation). People open to frequent trips to the vet, mobile. NIKOŚ character is a big teddy bear. He is cheerful, open to people. He knows the city, the rules of living at home. He would most like to lie on his back and stick out his belly for pets. Dear ones, let our Nikos go out into the world. We believe that among you there are human treasures with abilities and willingness to help this four-legged friend. Contact us: 501 797 018. September 12, 2025. Today we are giving you a summary of Nikos's health situation. NIKOŚ came to us with an open wound under his neck, which is healing very well with antibiotic support. He also arrived with fresh blood test results, which had worrying elevated kidney and liver parameters. While the kidneys have stabilized, the liver definitely needs observation and support. The guy is getting Hepatiale Force and we have to go for a follow-up ultrasound in about 2-3 weeks, because one of the lobes does not look normal. In the ultrasound image, it turned out that our charge had to undergo a splenectomy in the past, as he has no spleen. For further diagnostics, we definitely have eyes, possibly for entropion surgery. The next visit is a dermatologist due to strong redness of the paws, wounds on the joints. A cardiologist cannot be missing, because we will certainly have operations. But the most is happening in orthopedics. While it seemed to us that Niko's problem was the left side, two legs, after consulting Dr. Sawaszkiewicz at Animal Center, we now know that it is not good in all four limbs and the spine. Worse still, the fact that even after operations NIKOŚ will no longer be a fully functional dog. He will always require care, supervision, assistance, as well as rehabilitation and medication, to be able to live comfortably. What ails Niko? Arthritis with instability of the left knee joint (the dog limps on this leg visibly, because the injury is the most recent of all), arthritis with enthesopathy (especially the bilateral extensors)

Dziś chcielibyśmy przede wszystkim zaapelować do Was o DT dla Niko. Nikoś charakterem to wielki Misiak.

About NIKOŚ

What life with NIKOŚ looks like

NIKOŚ is a senior american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Fundacja AST (Adoptuj Staffa i Teriera) in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting NIKOŚ, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about NIKOŚ?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja AST (Adoptuj Staffa i Teriera) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw NIKOŚ on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt NIKOŚ if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja AST (Adoptuj Staffa i Teriera) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is NIKOŚ already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if NIKOŚ isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja AST (Adoptuj Staffa i Teriera) early rather than rehoming privately; they know NIKOŚ and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
