Adopt Nikos

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

NikosBirthdate: 01.01.2024. Gender: male dog. Breed: MischlingShoulder height: 50 cm. Weight: 21 kg. neutered: yes a gentle soul on the lookout for his happiness Nikos has a story that touches the heart and a kindness that remains despite everything. The approximately 50 cm tall and 21 kg heavy male dog comes from North Greece. There, he was discovered in a terrible shelter under the worst conditions – tied up, with insufficient food and water, left to fend for himself. A place where dogs barely had a chance. In February 2026, Nikos had the great fortune to be rescued by dedicated animal advocates. Since then, he has been lovingly cared for and makes small but important steps back into life every day. Despite his past, Nikos has preserved an incredibly gentle and friendly nature. With other dogs, he shows a social, playful, and accommodating side, so we can also envision him well as a second dog. People meet Nikos with caution. Trusting him is understandable. But if given time and not pressured, he becomes curious, approaches on his own, and makes cautious contact, a special moment that shows how much is in him. With children, Nikos generally gets along well. However, they should be somewhat older and understanding, as he is easily startled and retreats with any unrest or rough behavior. Putting on a leash and harness is currently being practiced and requires patience. Even though it still unsettles him, Nikos remains always friendly, a delicate, loving dog with a big heart. For Nikos, we wish for a quiet, welcoming home in the countryside, ideally with a garden where he can take his time. People with a heart, patience, and understanding who can accompany him gently and show him how beautiful a dog life can be. Cats should not live in the new home. Our dogs are rehomed only in families where they do not regularly have to be alone.

NikosGeburtsdatum: 01.01.2024. Geschlecht: Rüde. Rasse: MischlingSchulterhöhe 50 cm. Gewicht 21 kg.

About Nikos

What life with Nikos looks like

Nikos is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nikos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nikos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nikos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nikos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nikos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nikos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nikos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
