Nilo

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

The motto of Nilo's life is already: I'AM A SURVIVOR! And indeed, quite rightly written in capital letters. The brilliant heartbreaker who is barely four months old (as of 03/22) was discovered by a young animal rescuer when the clever puppy was dusting cat food from one of the many feeding stations for the street cats of Linares. The volunteer helper took the funny little dog home, not knowing that she had just saved the little fellow at the last minute, because hours later they brought Nilo to the veterinary clinic, where he received the devastating diagnosis of parvovirus. This illness, along with distemper, is probably responsible for most deaths among dogs under six months old who have not received the required vaccination protection in time. Diarrhea around the clock, the inability to keep water down, high fever, and pain torment the little ones, and most eventually give up the fight... It is likely that Nilo's siblings died from the virus before they could experience what it is to be loved and cared for - or maybe Nilo was abandoned by his owners because he showed early symptoms of the disease and they wanted to avoid the vet visit - a new dog is cheaper... But our Nilo fought, and after two weeks it is clear that he has not only won this battle, but the war. The rescuers of the cute soldier sighed with relief and now look forward to every day as Nilo runs through his foster family's apartment, plays with balls, begs for cookies, and in the evening lies decoratively snoring on the couch, enjoying the security of his temporary home. Our little clown with his shiny coat and unusual color has already seen a lot in life. Nilo was abandoned, fought for survival on the streets, and defeated one of the worst diseases that can affect a puppy. Perhaps it is because he seems very balanced and experienced for his age. Nilo has forgiven and forgotten everything that happened to him as a baby. Now is the time to fill the playful and mischievous terrier head with colorful, fun, and exciting adventures so that there is no room left for bad memories. For this, our very affectionate Nilo is looking for a humorous and patient family who want to explain the world to him. In return, he promises to always be especially well-behaved, and perhaps only chew a few shoes - and to be the best friend possible to his new people.

Über Nilos Leben steht schon jetzt das Motto: I’M A SURVIVOR!

About Nilo

What life with Nilo looks like

Nilo is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nilo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nilo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nilo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nilo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nilo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nilo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nilo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
