Nita

Kangal · Female · Adult · 7 years

A large shy Kangal mixed breed female dog arrived with the help of Dius Cumizdája Kölyökmentő foundation. Nita is a female dog born in 2018, whose puppyhood did not go very smoothly. Another dog bit her neck, causing permanent coordination problems. She has difficulty walking straight. Unfortunately, she is also heartworm positive and is currently undergoing treatment. This disease is treatable with medicine. Gaining her trust requires a lot of patience and love. She is afraid of people, especially men, but she will snuggle up to the one who gains her trust. She loves belly rubs, so it is possible to approach her with the help of a treat. Now that it has been possible to take her for walks, it is hard to get out of the gate because she wants to come out with her companion. She is picky with other dogs; some she wants to eat, others she ignores. She walks nicely in her own winding way. Sometimes she can walk straight for a fairly long time. She is afraid of trucks. She gets excited when hearing the barking of the shelter dogs. For now, what is certain is that Nitá needs patience and a lot of attention. First of all, she needs a calm environment where her further behavioral rehabilitation can continue. We know it's a difficult case, but we hope there will be an angel who specifically wants to help Nitá and adopt her as a family member. We recommend first of all a single dog and a guardian who is experienced with this breed. In case of adoption intention, it is necessary to come visit several times to get to know each other. Nita is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and can be adopted as a family member, continuing heartworm treatment.

Szépen sétál a maga kacskaringós módján. Néha sikerül elég sokáig egyenesen haladnia. A teherautóktól fél. A menhelyes kutyák csaholására felpörgeti magát. About Nita

What life with Nita looks like

Nita is a small adult kangal dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Coordination problems from neck injury, heartworm positive (under treatment), requires behavioral rehabilitation

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
