Nix

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Nix is very sweet and so gentle, moreover she is very good on walks, arrived from puppy to the animal shelter and like her brother Snow she suffers a lot from the long stay in the box. We are sorry that she has lost all these years when she could have given love to anyone who would have chosen her from puppy..but it's not too late for her...she still has a life ahead that can be filled with many new adventures...open her box and choose her...BORN IN OCTOBER 2017 Nix is a small female dog of medium size recovered on the highway and arrived at our animal shelter when she was three months old together with her siblings of which two were happily adopted while for her and her brother Snow there was never a request, never anyone who showed interest in adopting them. She has a great character, sunny and cheerful. She is vaccinated, microchipped, knows how to walk on a leash...what else could you want?? She grew up in a box and this should never happen, we hope that someone will fall in love with her one day. Nix arrives throughout Italy, after pre adoption placement checks and signing adoption forms.

IT·Show original

About Nix

What life with Nix looks like

Nix is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Rifugio San Francesco in Italy.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nix, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nix?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rifugio San Francesco handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nix on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nix if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rifugio San Francesco will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nix already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nix isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rifugio San Francesco early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nix and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
