adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Nixon has found a home! His story: The wonderful Nixon is looking for a home and has been waiting for you! Finally a family of his own, a place where his life can truly begin – that is his big dream. Nixon is simply wonderful. He is now 3 years old and stands about 65 cm. Nixon has been waiting for a home since he was a puppy. He only knows life behind bars. He gets along great with his fellow animals, whether male or female. Unfortunately, he has no experience with cats, and children should know responsible behavior around dogs. Our Nixon is a very sweet, young, playful, and well-mannered dog who also has a lot of power and wants to be adequately exercised. He enjoys all the cuddles he can get and would love to run around a lot. Therefore, he looks forward to a family that will take the time to meet his needs and be active. Nixon is going through puberty and will need a lot of support during this exciting time. Therefore, he also looks forward to a visit to a positively working dog training class with his people, to help him overcome this time without problems. Nixon does not know life in a home. House training, basic commands, walking on a leash, and much more are completely unknown to him. It is hard to predict how such dogs will develop in a family once they start to feel what an appropriate life means. Therefore, we are looking for people who will take the time to learn the entire dog alphabet with him and are familiar with the characteristics of a herding dog. Additionally, he will likely need some time to adjust to everything. Therefore, we are looking for people with a lot of patience, understanding, and of course, a great deal of love!

About Nixon

What life with Nixon looks like

Nixon is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nixon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nixon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nixon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nixon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nixon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nixon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nixon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
