Adopt Norbert

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten

male Found/Free-roaming animal Born around 2023 EKH neutered [x] yes / [] no At the animal shelter since 18.02.2026 ________________________ We test every cat with a quick test for FIV ("Cat AIDS", more info here!) and FeLV ("Cat Leukemia", more info here!) and clarify the status. We inform here about the risk of FIP disease ("Feline Infectious Peritonitis"). ________________________ Norbert was discovered at a feeding station in Marburger Marbach; he had joined the cats there, which were being cared for, while still intact. He was secured by engaged animal welfare workers; a owner could not be found, so he is now searching for a nice home with us. He is a scary young guy, but with trusted people, he builds up trust with calm and regular contact and becomes more approachable. He is especially very playful! We are sure that he will develop well in a real home, but his people should be sensitive and patient during the getting-to-know-you period at the animal shelter and during the adjustment. Norbert mostly keeps to the other cats in his room and enclosure, he is very attuned to them and seems to get along well with all of them, unless they show clear dominant behavior and seek conflict – then Norbert can also give back! Norbert would like to have the option to use a free roam in a cat-friendly environment after sufficient adjustment. We could also present him as a well-cared-for farm cat with a lot of human contact. We wish him very much that he finds a wonderful place where he will be loved. ________________________ (As of 29.04.2026) (Click images to view them in full size!) The description gives the current status, but we reserve the right to make changes or new assessments. It can always happen that an animal shows or develops differently due to changed circumstances both here at the animal shelter and in the new home. Tags:

About Norbert

What life with Norbert looks like

Norbert is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Norbert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Norbert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Norbert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Norbert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Norbert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Norbert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Norbert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
