Norek

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Norek was found, most likely abandoned. Terrified, closed off, as if the world he knew had suddenly collapsed. He still doesn’t fully trust humans, and it’s hard not to understand why. But we know one thing: Norek very much wants to trust again. Over time, he begins to choose his own people – those with whom he feels a little safer. When he opens his heart to someone, he becomes a dog full of affection. He snuggles up, pressing his snout into their arms, as if to say: “Please, don’t leave me ever again.” When he’s alone, he buries himself in a blanket. Literally. He buries himself as if he wants to disappear. That’s why they named him Norek – because he’s searching for a shelter, his den, where he can feel safe again. Norek is looking for a quiet, adult home – without small children who might overwhelm him, and without other dogs, which unfortunately he doesn’t tolerate. We believe, however, that when he finds his “own” person, he will open up faster than anyone would expect. If you have patience, warmth, and the readiness to help Nork regain his faith in people – he’s waiting for you. Give him a home. Give him peace. Give him a chance. Not suitable for homes with other dogs.

PL·Show original

Jeśli masz w sobie cierpliwość, ciepło i gotowość, by pomóc Norkowi odzyskać wiarę w ludzi – on czeka właśnie na Ciebie. Daj mu dom. Daj mu spokój. Daj mu szansę.

About Norek

What life with Norek looks like

Norek is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Norek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Norek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Norek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Norek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Norek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Norek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Norek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
