NORMAN

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

The NORMAN was born on a farm that was put up for sale and abandoned by its owner. There, the NORMAN, its 4 siblings, its mother and other 4 dogs remained. They were hungry, including the mother who could not feed her litter. The neighbors alerted the authorities and filed a complaint, after which someone came to rescue the puppies. The puppies had very little human contact in the beginning of their lives, so they were very shy with people when they arrived. They were also hungry. Since then, one of the puppies was lucky enough to find a home and we know that it adapted splendidly, but the other three are still with us. The NORMAN is very gentle and is used to the company of other dogs. But with people, it's a different story. They let themselves be touched by the person who feeds them and cleans the dog shelter, which proves that they get used to and trust the people who are with them every day, but they are suspicious of strangers. The NORMAN needs a special family, someone with a lot of understanding and patience. We believe it would thrive in a house with a garden located in a quiet place, perhaps in a village. The NORMAN was born around April 2017. It is vaccinated, dewormed and neutered.

PT·Show original

About NORMAN

What life with NORMAN looks like

NORMAN is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient family due to early trauma and distrust of strangers

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting NORMAN, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about NORMAN?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw NORMAN on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt NORMAN if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is NORMAN already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if NORMAN isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know NORMAN and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
