Nova

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy

Nova is a very small girl who did not have good socialization during her first 3 months of life. She has been with us for several weeks now. She does very well with other dogs; she loves to play, sleeps comfortably against them, and finds everything cozy as long as it’s with other dogs. People still find her a bit challenging. At first, she was barely approachable, but this has improved over the past few weeks. She now takes things a bit easier, sleeps comfortably on the couch indoors, and is genuinely happy to see you when she wakes up. She wags her tail, and I can gently stroke her head. She is a treasure and there is no malice in her, but she clearly needs to learn to trust the people who made her. We place her only with another dog (or multiple), as she gets a lot of support from them and she bonds with them. Nova is looking for an owner who has a quiet household. A backyard is a must because she still needs to learn to walk on a leash. She does this well indoors, but finds the busy, large world still very challenging. Her new owner must be patient with her and not want to move too quickly. If you let her explore the world at her own pace, she will zoom forward. Sometimes a gentle nudge in the right direction does her good. We know she is incredibly cute to look at, she is very small and will stay that way, but behind this friendly, gentle head, there is still some work to be done and it requires patience. But once she crosses that threshold, she finds it wonderful too. You will get a lifelong friend for your efforts. Nova is still with us in Spain, but can travel to the Netherlands in January and can go to a foster family if needed. If you are interested, we would be happy to get in touch with you. Please leave your phone number. Nova is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and has her own passport. She is ready to move on to her new life. Call: 06-50800245 or fill out the form:

NL·Show original

About Nova

What life with Nova looks like

Nova is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Huis voor Dieren in Netherlands.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nova, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nova?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Huis voor Dieren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nova on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nova if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Huis voor Dieren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nova already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nova isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Huis voor Dieren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nova and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
