Nutmeg

Lurcher · Female · Young · 2 years

Nutmeg is a stunning lady, with so much personality! She may have never been in a home environment before, so we would be looking for an understanding home that are able to support her with her house-training and being left on her own, but we do think she'll pick these things up very quickly as she has adapted so well to her more restricted lifestyle since her fracture. Nutmeg is one whole baby, with lots of energy and love to give. But in true lurcher style, loves to snuggle up for a cuddle on the sofa with her pals. She walks well on lead, and really enjoys her sniffy walks where she can explore all the smells. Nutmeg cannot wait to be able to live her off-lead life again, running around in enclosed fields once she's fully healed. Despite being restricted in centre, she has been an absolute joy to have in our care. We will miss her dearly! Meet gorgeous girl, Nutmeg! Nutmeg is a 2-year old Lurcher looking for her forever home. Nutmeg came into us with a fractured leg, and has been healing in the centre with us. She is a very sweet, affectionate girl that loves her people. She would prefer for all children to be of secondary school age and above, as she does get a bit silly and excited but this is likely to be because of her lack of exercise whilst she's been healing. Due to her leg being poorly, she hasn't mixed with any dogs in the centre so we are unsure how she interacts with dogs, though, we have seen dogs at a distance and she has been very excited and wiggly! For this reason, we would like her to be the only dog in the home, making doggy pals out and about! Nutmeg has gained so much confidence since she's been with us and has shown her true loving, goofy personality. She loves to meet new people and can be a bit bouncy, but she has so much love to give. Nutmeg is likely to be an active girl once she's fully healed. We are currently building up her exercise and she will be free to be a bouncy girl off-lead in 4 weeks or so. We can't wait for this gorgeous girl to find her forever home - she absolutely deserves it.

About Nutmeg

What life with Nutmeg looks like

Nutmeg is a young adult lurcher dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nutmeg, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nutmeg?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nutmeg on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nutmeg if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Nutmeg already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nutmeg isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nutmeg and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
