Oakley

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Sex:** Male **Age:** Born approximately in August 2025 (estimated date, approximate) **Size:** Medium (16 kg, as of October 2026) **Arrival at the shelter:** November 2025. Returned to adoption in October 2026. Oakley, formerly Corto, was abandoned by his adoptive family and threatened with euthanasia. **Neutered:** Yes (November 25, 2025) **Vaccinated:** Yes **Dewormed/flea-treated:** Yes **Compatibility:** Good with dogs, good with children, good with cats **Temperament:** Sociable on arrival (November 2025) **October 2026: information provided by his current family, who is surrendering him** **What can you tell us about his temperament?** Oakley is a rather fearful and sensitive dog, but above all he is a playful one. He is gentle and affectionate once he feels secure, though he needs some time to feel at ease. **His qualities:** He is playful, house-trained, and very sociable with other dogs. He walks well on a leash and has a good recall, which I practice regularly, including with distractions. He is a calm dog indoors, and he doesn't get into much mischief as long as nothing is left lying around. He also loves boat trips, wearing his life jacket! **What kind of family would suit him?** **Housing, environment, children, daily routine (outings):** We live in an apartment, with a routine of at least four walks a day (one of at least one hour, the other three of at least 20 minutes each). He adapts very well to apartment life. He loves beach walks: he doesn't swim, but he wades in up to his belly! When we visit friends who have a garden, he spends the evening outside, so a house with a garden would be ideal and a real advantage for him. A family without young children would suit him best (he has already got along very well with an 11-year-old child). **Would he need a family that already has another dog?** A family with a well-mannered, balanced dog would be a very good thing: it could give him a good example and reassure him. It is not a requirement, but it would be a real plus. **Does he get along well with other dogs (males and females)?** Yes, very well. He gets along equally well with males and females. However, be careful with food: I think chewing kibble in the presence of other dogs may cause problems. On the other hand, I have already given him treats in the presence of other dogs (and I gave some to the others too) without any issues, but those were dogs he knew well. **Does he get along with cats?** Yes, he gets along well with cats. **Is he house-trained?** Yes, he is house-trained for now. **Does he walk on a leash?** Yes, he walks well on a short leash, although he is more often on a 5-meter long line! **Is he afraid of anything in particular (strangers, noises, commotion, etc.)?** He doesn't really enjoy being petted: even if he may be happy to see a stranger, the person should pet him very briefly and then ignore him. He is sensitive, so a gentle and respectful approach is important. He is also afraid of strangers who come into his home, so the family will need to take the time to introduce him to visitors gradually. Additionally, he doesn't much like young children. However, he has seen my 11-year-old cousin several times and it went very well, so he can get along well with older children. **Is he used to walking in town?** He has been to town several times (it's a 15-minute drive from our home), and it has always gone very well, including in busy places such as summer markets. However, it isn't a daily outing: day to day, he mostly walks on the beach or in the forest. **Does he have a good recall?** Yes, he has a fairly good recall. I also practice it with distractions, but I admit it doesn't always work, depending on how intense the distraction is. I almost always carry treats on walks (I don't give one every time, roughly every other time, except for big exercises or difficult recalls). **Can he be left alone for a while without problems (no barking, no destruction, no crying/anxiety)?** Yes. I like to give him a stuffed Kong or a chew before leaving, but sometimes I don't and he behaves well. He doesn't misbehave every day; he mainly does so when there are things lying around. I don't leave anything lying around at home, so overall everything goes well. **Does he have any particular health problems (illness/disability)?** No, no particular health problems. However, he digests pork-based wet food very poorly: it has made him vomit and have diarrhea several times, so I no longer give it to him. **Are his vaccinations up to date?** Yes, they are up to date. He will have his booster in November. **What is his current weight?** 16 kg. **Reason for surrender:** Unfortunately, he has bitten us several times. We are afraid of him and no longer trust him. It is a difficult decision, but we believe it is the best solution for him and for us. **History:** Abandoned with his brother and sisters GARANCE, FEORA, and MALTESE. Corto survived parvovirus. **Contact:** **Neutered:** Yes **Vaccinated:** Yes **Dewormed/flea-treated:** Yes **Compatibility:** Good with dogs, good with cats, good with children **Temperament:** **October 2026: information provided by his current family, who is surrendering him:**

About Oakley

What life with Oakley looks like

Oakley is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Remember Me France in France.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oakley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oakley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Remember Me France handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oakley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oakley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Remember Me France will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Oakley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oakley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Remember Me France early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oakley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
