Odin

Mixed Breed · Male

Odin is a five-year-old (as of 02/2023) German Shepherd. He came into the care of ArcoNatura in mid-January. Odin lived on the property of his owner with his buddy Beethoven, an eleven-year-old Labrador who is urgently looking for a nice retirement home. The two-legged ones are moving into an apartment, and the four-legged ones have to stay behind. The dogs were always outside and don't really know life in a house, but the two are currently staying with a loving foster family and are showing that they really appreciate the concept of a roof over their heads, a comfortable dog bed, cuddles, and the possibility of waiting hopefully for a snack at the table. Odin is still far from being considered old, and it's time someone shows him how great it is to go hiking with best friends, play with a ball, and play with dog buddies. For his age, Odin is very quiet, but he also has very little exposure to the environment. Very much a German Shepherd, the friendly charmer is very eager to learn and discovers new things every day that excite him. Odin is modest and easygoing, and we are looking for people who can live with a cozy teddy bear, but who could also cope if Odin ever discovered the playful vehicle that slumbers within him. We wish for this strong and healthy male dog to finally get a species-appropriate and breed-appropriate life, connected to people who love him and integrate him into their lives as he is.

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
