Adopt Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe)

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Name Olaf Born around October 2021 Gender male dog, not neutered Breed mixed breed Size large Foster home Olaf will not be rehomed through our organization. If interested, we will forward the inquiry. The age given here is often an estimate, as we don't always know the exact age. Other information, such as size, is subjective. The male dog was rehomed in summer 2022. Unfortunately, his behavior has changed so much that the family feels overwhelmed and is now searching for people who can do justice to his nature. Description of his current family: Olaf is an active and eager learner. He likes his ball, is not water-shy, he bathes/swims and enjoys being in and around water. He runs with a bicycle. He is compatible with other dogs, whether male dogs or female dogs. He understands smaller breeds best – he doesn't understand or know what to do about the growling and grumbling of large dogs. He doesn't like crowds, has problems with people in dark clothing. Children & cats – we have no experience with these. Taking the bus and going to a restaurant is no problem if he has a seat with back support. Generally, he doesn't like things approaching from behind, but he sleeps with his back to the door on his blanket. He doesn't like to be alone, then he runs around the house and is stressed. He is no cuddly dog, but he seeks contact with us and is happy to be involved. Olaf's behavior varies in everyday situations from "Play with me," "Scratch me," to "Don't touch me" or "Stay away from me." Even with a muzzle, our trust has been so severely damaged that we no longer want to take it off. In summary, we all suffer. Playing with a ball as before is unfortunately only possible to a limited extent with a muzzle – throwing and retrieving the ball is no longer possible at all. Despite this, he loves his ball and can keep himself occupied with it. We are always on "Attention stance" when he comes for cuddles or scratches. He knows the commands Sit, Stay, Wait, Foot, Stay, Out, Forward, Walk, No, Fetch, Search, Wait, Here, Left, and Right. These are not always followed. We are looking for people who are willing to take on the adventure of an international dog and give Olaf a second chance at a responsible home. About Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe)

What life with Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe) looks like

Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe) is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Olaf (Vermittlungshilfe) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
