Olimpia

Mixed Breed · Female

Olimpia looks at first glance like a too-washed Border collie, and perhaps she also carries a portion of the genes of these highly intelligent and hardworking representatives. But due to her calm nature, there must still be a good portion of other genetic material present in Olimpia that justifies this calmness. The strikingly beautiful female dog was observed for some time plundering the trash cans in the back of a supermarket. When one of the market employees informed our Spanish friends about the increasingly emaciated female dog, Olimpia could be easily lured and captured. Only then was the full extent of Olympia’s condition visible: she was emaciated to the bones and infested with parasites. Left to her own devices, she likely wouldn’t have survived much longer… Since then, the wonderful girl has been in the care of her foster family, and no one can understand why such a dog ever ended up on the street. Olimpia is cuddly, clingy, and extremely affectionate without ever being intrusive. On the contrary, at first, she shows a certain shyness and reticence and seems to be waiting to be invited. She has no problem with children or cats, is compatible with all fellow animals, and enjoys every form of affection to the fullest. She attentively follows everything that goes on around her and is happy when her foster mom takes a break from her activities to spend a little time with Olimpia. A true dream dog is on the lookout for a loving home with people who are eager to take in a companion in all life’s circumstances. Are you ready for Olimpia?

DE·Show original

About Olimpia

What life with Olimpia looks like

Olimpia is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Olimpia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Olimpia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Olimpia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Olimpia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Olimpia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Olimpia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Olimpia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
