OMEGA

Female · Senior · 11 years

OMEGA came into our care together with her brother Alf after the death of her beloved caregiver. In 2015, she found a home and for a decade she could enjoy warmth, care, and daily human closeness. Unfortunately, fate tested her again and today she is looking for someone who will give her heart and a safe shelter. The beginning at the animal shelter was very difficult for her. OMEGA was terrified - she hid in the farthest corner of the cage, avoided contact and did not want to go out for walks. The new, noisy reality completely overwhelmed her. However, thanks to the patience and commitment of a volunteer, she made a huge step forward. Today she eagerly awaits walks, and at the sight of a leash she even wriggles her paws with excitement. She easily allows her paws to be wiped after returning, but it must be done calmly and gently, so as not to scare her with sudden movements. Increasingly often she greets people with joyful wagging and energetically spins around the cage - it's hard to believe that she once tried to be completely "invisible". OMEGA loves affection and contact with the caregiver, but her heart can be won easily with treats. She can receive special snacks or vegetables (she is on Hypo + Dermo diet), but remember that she is a real foodie! The shelter noise greatly stresses her - the barking of other dogs causes tension in her and she often responds in the same way. She does not tolerate other dogs, has a strong instinct towards cats. We don't know how she reacts to children, but she certainly would not feel comfortable in a home with small, noisy babies. Most of all, she needs a quiet, predictable place - preferably away from the city noise or in a quiet neighborhood. She is looking for patient caregivers, ready to give her time to fully open up and rebuild a sense of security. In a home environment, she will surely show her true, tender nature. However, it should be taken into account that she may struggle with separation anxiety.

Dzięki cierpliwości i zaangażowaniu wolontariuszki zrobiła jednak ogromny krok naprzód. Kontakt do wolontariusza: 500 289 124

About OMEGA

What life with OMEGA looks like

OMEGA is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: On special Hypo + Dermo diet, potential separation anxiety, needs quiet environment

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting OMEGA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about OMEGA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw OMEGA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt OMEGA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is OMEGA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if OMEGA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know OMEGA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
