Onyx

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Onyx is looking for a permanent place in someone's heart! Onyx lives in our Polish partner animal shelter. He is a handsome mixed breed dog with a friendly and social nature. Onyx forms strong bonds with his caregivers. He loves being petted and receiving human attention. The nice dog enjoys walking together and curiously explores his surroundings. As there is always a lot for Onyx to sniff out, more work needs to be done on his leash training. At first contacts with other dogs, Onyx can sometimes be pushy and overbearing. Therefore, it is important to accompany the first contacts with other dogs calmly and controlledly. The appropriate handling with his peers must be practiced with Onyx and the building of a good bond must be supported. The friendly dog is now waiting in the shelter to be seen by his heart people. We are looking for a loving home for Onyx. This should allow him to settle in quietly and comfortably. Onyx will have much to learn and will need the positive support and companionship of his humans. He should be allowed to gradually grow into his new world. Onyx wants to be able to fully rely on his people. They should want to open all doors to a happy dog life for him. A garden with a fence would be ideal for Onyx so he can really run around. Onyx could certainly be happy as a single prince with his people. If you have already opened your heart to Onyx and want to give him a shared future, we look forward to your inquiry. Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs come with a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new life. If you are seriously interested in adopting Onyx, please contact the responsible mediator of SALVA Dog Help. We would also be very happy about the provision of a foster home. The contact details can be found below.

Onyx wünscht sich einen festen Herzensplatz! Onyx lebt in unserem polnischen Partnertierheim.

About Onyx

What life with Onyx looks like

Onyx is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Onyx, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Onyx?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Onyx on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Onyx if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Onyx already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Onyx isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Onyx and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
