Adopt Oona

Female · Young · 3 years

Oona is a beautiful young terrier. Oona came to us after she was unfortunately handed over via Facebook recently. Oona is used to living indoors both during the day and at night with access to the garden. Oona did not live with other pets. She lived with older children and it went well. Oona knows the commands sit, lie down and fetch very well. She is not car sick. Oona was left alone for three hours a day in her previous home and this went without any problems. She is housebroken and does not chew anything anymore. Her toys sometimes fall apart. Oona walks nicely on a leash. She is a real treasure with a golden heart. Now Oona is looking for her golden bed where she never has to leave again. Oona can be placed with children aged 14 and up. Oona does not get along with other animals, so she's looking for a place where she can be the queen. Oona will only be placed with people where she can fully be part of the family! A securely enclosed garden is a requirement. Oona is an energetic young lady and is looking for owners who can give her what she needs. Who can give Oona a warm home?

Read original (nl)

About Oona

What life with Oona looks like

Oona is a young adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
